Meet the photographer
Hi, I’m Tyson
There’s something magical about film. It’s a moment in time: light frozen into silver crystals.
I’ve been playing with cameras for most of my life, but the first time I shot film was in a traditional darkroom class in college. I was hooked. I was entranced by the magic of seeing a print appear on paper in the developing tray, and I loved the hands-on aspect of making images by hand without a computer.
My goal with Heirloom Photography is to share that magic with the world. Technology is advancing faster and faster, and AI can make you any image you want. I’m doing things different by making photos with techniques that are over 100 years old, by hand, no computers involved. The result is a physical print you can hold in your hands. It is timeless, yet nostalgic, lit to evoke the chiaroscuro feel of the Old Masters. These photos are true Heirlooms that will outlast Instagram and obsolete digital media.
I’m based in North West Arkansas. I did my undergrad studies at John Brown University where I got a degree in Cinematography. I worked in Los Angeles in the film industry for 10 years before moving back to NWA to be close to family.
When I’m not in the darkroom I’m out exploring Arkansas’ natural beauty on the many trails and rivers in NWA.
